Silatronix Featured in The Science Coalition Sparking Economic Growth, Volume 3

Silatronix has been featured in the latest edition of The Science Coalition’s Sparking Economic Growth Report. Each report highlights companies created from federally funded university research. Each company serves as an example of how government investment in basic science research is helping to create jobs, innovation, and economic growth in the U.S.A. The report highlights how The National Science Foundation and the National Institute of Standards and Technology funded the initial fundamental research performed at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in collaboration with Argonne National Laboratory. At the UW-Madison, work in the research groups of Dr. Robert West (Emeritus) and Dr. Robert Hamers ultimately resulted in the development of the first generation of organosilicon (OS) compounds.

Dr. West and Dr. Hamers went on to co-found the company Silatronix in 2007 to continue to develop and commercialize OS materials for use in Li-ion batteries. The continued effort at Silatronix would not have been possible without the additional sponsorship and federal funding support of the National Science Foundation, the Office of Naval Research, the Department of Energy, and the Wisconsin Department of Commerce. Additionally, Silatronix would like to acknowledge and thank Senator Tammy Baldwin and Congressman Mark Pocan for their support of Silatronix’s continued growth in Madison, WI.

Silatronix has grown to 21 employees (including 10 PhDs) and has developed three generations of organosilicon materials. The company is currently focused on the commercialization and global product launch of OS3, an organosilicon electrolyte material that enables extreme performance improvement in Li-ion batteries.
